SARA MCDANIEL MINDEN STAYS OWNER AND DESIGNER WITH HER NEIGHBORS, THE MILLER FAMILY WORKING THE MINDEN ST JUDE AUCTION
In February we have the St Jude Auction, an annual event that always runs across the Superbowl weekend. Raffles are drawn each day and hundreds of items are auctioned live as well! Since the first auction four decades ago, the event has raised over $30 Million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have visited St. Jude for treatment, and thousands more around the world have benefited from the research conducted at St. Jude. Minden’s citizens have raised more money for St. Jude, per capita, than any other city in the United States of America. This year it is running from February 6-10; a four-day telethon and raffle that will be broadcast on the local radio and cable station.

On April 12, there’s Phillip’s 5K to benefit the non-profit Phillip’s Cottage. Minden Stays host Sara McDaniel bought Phillip’s Cottage to honor her late father Phillip Carroll and has turned it into a transition house for young women with children who have recently graduated from the Teen Challenge program (a local faith-based residential program that benefits individuals struggling with addiction and other life-controlling issues) and may not be completely prepared to move out on their own. The 5k will be a truly family affair with the 5k and a fun run. Strollers and wagons are welcome so the whole family can join in. Prizes for top finishers and the top runners in various age groups will also be given out on the day. For more information, please visit https://mindenstjude.com/

The Witches Ride of Minden takes place annually in October, falling on the 25th in 2025. Over the last 30 years, the Witches Ride has been a blend of whimsy with philanthropy. Participants dress up in their spookiest garb and ride down the designated route on bikes, golf carts or by foot. The ride travels the downtown streets in a parade fashion, ending with a block party at Miller Quarters to celebrate the fall season. Event information can be found here https://witchesrideminden.com/.
