Nestled in the piney woods of Webster Parish, Minden, Louisiana, is experiencing a remarkable transformation. Its downtown area is bustling with renewed energy, thanks to the revitalization efforts of local community leaders, blending historic preservation with modern-day innovation.
Minden’s downtown is rich in history, featuring early 1900s brick streets and charming architecture. Recognized as a Louisiana Main Street community since 1987, the town has long been committed to preserving its heritage while fostering economic growth.
The HGTV Spark: ‘Home Town Kickstart’
In 2022, Minden gained national attention when featured on HGTV’s Home Town Kickstart. This exposure acted as a catalyst for change, attracting investment and tourism to the area. The show highlighted several key projects such as Miller Quarters Park, Geaux Fresh and a private residence.
Miller Quarters Park: In the 1930s, Miller Quarters was the home to over 50 low-income, African American cottages. Over the years, the houses deteriorated, and the families moved to other parts of town. The eleven acres in the center of town were transformed into a vibrant community park that honors the neighborhood’s history.

The Villas at Spanish Court: The Villas at Spanish Court in Minden, Louisiana, represent a remarkable blend of historical preservation and modern design. Originally built in 1931 as the first multi-family dwellings in the area, the villas were abandoned in the 1980s and left to deteriorate. In 2021, designer Sara McDaniel embarked on an ambitious restoration project, transforming the eight villas into boutique accommodations that honor their Spanish-style architecture while infusing contemporary charm. Each villa is uniquely themed—such as the Annie, Piper, and Laura—featuring vintage-inspired furnishings, custom details, and nostalgic touches like retro wallpaper and antique dishware.
