One of the best ways to spend a fall afternoon is simply walking through downtown Minden. Browse locally owned boutiques, antique shops, and gift shops while taking in the beautiful historic buildings. Stop for lunch at one of our local restaurants, grab an ice cream at Shug’s or coffee, and enjoy the slower pace that makes small-town shopping so enjoyable.

Fall brings some of the nicest weather of the year, making it the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors.
Take a peaceful kayak trip on scenic Bayou Dorcheat, where you’ll find calm waters and beautiful views. Lace up your hiking shoes and explore one of our nearby nature trails in Kitsachie National Forest or Lake Bistineau, where the cooler temperatures make every walk a little more enjoyable. Pack a picnic, enjoy a quiet afternoon under the trees, or simply relax on the patio of your villa with your favorite book, a campfire and a warm cup of coffee.
Sometimes the best vacation days are the ones with no schedule at all.

Minden’s fall calendar is packed with events that bring the whole community together.
On September 12, don’t miss the Vintage Car Club Show, where downtown fills with beautifully restored classic cars, hot rods, and antique trucks.
Then on October 24, experience the excitement of Minden High School Homecoming. Friday night lights, school spirit, and hometown traditions make this one of the most memorable weekends of the season.
The fun continues on October 25 with the annual Witches’ Ride. Watch as dozens of creatively dressed witches ride decorated bicycles, golf carts, and other festive rides through downtown. It’s become one of Minden’s most photographed and beloved fall traditions.
Finally, plan your getaway around Main to Main, happening November 5-7. This favorite shopping event features sidewalk sales, holiday merchandise, seasonal decorating inspiration, antiques, clothing, gifts, and unique treasures from businesses across town. It’s the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping while supporting local businesses.
